Ban on Open Burning and Fireworks Restrictions

The Cherry Hills Village Police Department is issuing this reminder for all residents and visitors to the City of Cherry Hills Village regarding fireworks and the ban on open burning issued by Governor Hickenlooper for the State of Colorado.
 
The Cherry Hills Village Municipal Code states:
 
Sec. 10-10-10. Fireworks.
Any person who, within the corporate limits of the City, discharges any firecrackers, fireworks as defined by state law, or explosives of any description without written permission from the Chief of Police, which permission shall limit the time and fix the place of the discharge of such firecrackers, fireworks or other explosives, and which permission shall be subject to revocation by the Chief of Police at any time after the same has been granted, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor. (Ord. 4, 1947; 1980 Code; prior code 9-2-2; Ord. 9 §1, 2003).
 
The Cherry Hills Police department urges residents to report any unauthorized use of fireworks by calling the CHPD non-emergency number 303-761-8711 or by calling Arapahoe County Dispatch at 303-795-4711. Citations will be issued for fireworks violations.
 
Residents are encouraged to enjoy professional fireworks displays around the Metro Denver Area.
 
The ban on open burning signed by Governor Hickenlooper on June 14, 2012 states that:
 
Pursuant to Article IV, Section 2 of the Colorado Constitution and C.R.S. § 23-31-308
Open burning is hereby prohibited in all counties in the State of Colorado.
Open burning does not include fires in: liquid-fueled or gas-fueled stoves; fireplaces contained within buildings, charcoal grills at private residences; constructed, permanent fire pits within developed camp and picnic grounds or recreation sites; commercial, professional and municipal fireworks displays where specific written approval has been granted by the sheriff of the county in which the fireworks display occur.
