Unmanned Aircraft Systems a.k.a. Drones

The City Council passed Ordinance 13, Series 2015 at their December 9, 2015 meeting, establishing regulations for hobby Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) a.k.a. drones.  Click here to view Ordinance 13, Series 2015. The Council amended the ordinance by passing Ordinance 3, Series 2016 at their February 2, 2016 meeting.  Click here to view Ordinance 3, Series 2016.

Hobby Drone Registration:

Section 7-7-40(a)(1) of the ordinance states: "A Hobby Operator of an unmanned aircraft system shall register the UAS as provided in this Section prior to operating an unmanned aircraft system within City Airspace.  The City may accept a federal registration in lieu of City registration of a specific UAS only if the federal registration program enables the City to confirm a registration number for such UAS and to obtain substantially the same application information as required by the City in subsection (2) below. The City Council may establish other registration requirements by resolution."

To register with the City please complete the City Hobby UAS/Drone Contact Information Form and attach a copy of your federal registration. There is no fee.
