City Council has approved the Adopt-A-Street & Trail Program in an effort to keep the City's rights-of-way and trails free of trash. The program is limited to families and school groups from institutions within the City's limits. Participating groups must agree to restrict program activities to the area of right-of-way off the traveled portion of the roadway. Adopting groups agree to pick up litter from both sides of the street or trail for a one-mile section or a group of trails at a minimum of four times per year. Periods of adoption are for one year.
Groups must also agree to attend a safety meeting with City staff and provide one adult supervisor for every 8 participants between the ages of 13 and 17 and one adult supervisor for every 4 participants between the ages of 6 and 12. Unfortunately, no one under the age of six is allowed to participate in the program.
Program activities will be between the hours of one hour after sunrise to one hour before sunset and not during inclement weather. Adopting groups are encouraged to sort litter and take recyclable materials to recycling centers. The group may keep any money collected from their recycling efforts. The name of the volunteer family or group will be posted on the City's website, Cable Channel 22, the Village Center and in the Village Crier.
